A simple Lakshmi-Ganesha puja guide
Prepare a clean, stable worship space before the evening. Arrange the images or murtis used by your family, a lamp, flowers, water, fruit and a customary sweet offering. Honour Ganesha before Lakshmi worship according to your household practice. A modest, attentive puja is more meaningful than buying an elaborate list of unfamiliar items.
- Prepare and settle. Bathe, wear clean clothes and place the offerings within reach. Keep a lamp on a heat-resistant surface away from loose cloth.
- Begin with remembrance. Offer your family’s opening prayer to Ganesha and make a simple sankalpa in your own words.
- Offer Lakshmi worship. Present flowers, water and naivedya, and read a familiar Lakshmi prayer. Formal avahana and installation rites should follow the text or teacher of your tradition.
- Conclude with aarti. Share prasad and light household lamps safely. Include an act of generosity, service or care for someone outside your immediate gathering.

Questions about Diwali 2026
Is Diwali on 8 or 9 November?
The Indian evening household observance covered here is on 8 November. Amavasya continues into 9 November, but a tithi extending into a civil date does not by itself move the evening puja to that date.
Can I use a Delhi muhurat in Mumbai?
No. Sunset and the rising sign depend on location. Choose the city where you will perform the puja; the international date and local clock can also differ.
Is buying gold necessary?
No purchase is needed to use this guide or to make prayer, lamps, gratitude and generosity part of your celebration. Shopping customs are separate from a requirement for worship.
Are Tamil Deepavali and Bengali Kali Puja the same timing?
No. Morning Naraka Chaturdashi observances and night-time Kali Puja use different ritual reference periods. The evening Lakshmi window above is not a substitute for either.
